Art Practice – Let’s practice making art

Written by: | Published: April 04, 2016 | Updated: June 05, 2017

I’m going to try something new today. We’re going to talk about art practice. If you like it, I might make this a regular series and we can practice together. I truly believe everyone has the ability to make art, it’s just a matter of liking the art you make and practicing what you learn. You might not like the art you make, but I still think you can make art! So let’s start practicing.

Art Practice – Lets practice making art

I’ve been sharing little tips and ideas on my instagram account to encourage others to practice a new skill or practice a talent they want to get better at. I’d like to share those ideas here too. So today I’m sharing a little sketch and quick painting I did the other day. With spring flowers all around, I’m always inspired to draw more flowers. Why not, right? So I grabbed one of the tulips and a black pen and sketched the shape in my sketchbook.

I’m trying to learn how to watercolor better. I’m not sure what the proper technique is, but I “draw” my paintings. So, instead of sketching more with the pen, I grabbed a water brush and tried to “sketch” with paint. This technique works for me.. it doesn’t feel as awkward as straight out trying to paint.

What skill or technique do you want to try? Maybe you have an artistic kid and you are lost for ideas on how to participate — you can do it, just learn along side them. They might be able to teach you why they love art so much… and there grows your appreciation. I can’t wait to hear what you try!!

I challenge you to try your hand at making more art. Share your story or whatever you create in the comments below, I’d love to hear about your own art practice!
