The Odd Life of Timothy Green Fun Review and Activities for Kids

Written by: | Published: August 15, 2012 | Updated: June 05, 2017

This is a family friendly film that’s sweet, full of positive messages we have grown  accustomed to with Disney and oobscure humor that will keep you wondering what quirky comment would come next. We hve a bit of a family mantra in our house – “find your Happy” inspired by another Disney family movie, We Bought a Zoo. The Odd Life of Timothy Green is a full featured film that demoonstrates over and over the joy in finding the happy in everything we do. It’s a film that is filled with lessons and little moments of inspiration to look at life with a positive life.

When young Timothy suddenly comes into the lives of Cindy and Jim Green, they learn that sometimes the unexpected can bring some of life’s greatest gifts.

Favorite line from the movie – Have the Day you have. Take away: yeah, you should strive to have a good day, but appreciate and do the best you can with what you are given.

More about the movie:

Academy Award®–nominated director/writer Peter Hedges (“Dan in Real Life,” What’s Eating Gilbert Grape?”) brings enchantment to the screen with “The Odd Life of Timothy Green,” an inspiring, magical story about a happily married couple, Cindy and Jim Green (Jennifer Garner and Joel Edgerton), who can’t wait to start a family but can only dream about what their child would be like. When young Timothy (CJ Adams) shows up on their doorstep one stormy night, Cindy and Jim—and their small town of Stanleyville—learn that sometimes the unexpected can bring some of life’s greatest gifts.

Jennifer Garner and Joel Edgerton work perfectly together as a couple. They’re caring, helpful people with a very openminded and positive outline on life as though just about anything is possible. Their goofy humor is matched well and makes the movie fun to watch with all kinds of unexpected moments.

The content is great for all ages, however I think it’s a bit slow moving for young kids. I found there were times I was wondering where the story was going or wishing we could move along a bit faster. I think younger viewers will be entertained and enjoy the The Odd Life of Timothy Green. It’s a sweet story with so much encouragement and belief in unexpected circumstances, we can all be reminded to take a risk and believe.
