Make A Patriotic Art Vase

Written by: | Published: June 23, 2013 | Updated: August 13, 2023

Not all patriotic decor needs to be created in red, white and blue. Instead, you can focus on the symbolism or the words. So today, as part of a blog hop event featuring Craft Attitude printable film products, I am sharing a project focusing on the lyrics from some of our favorite patriotic songs. I’ve decorated a flower vase with inspiring words from our US national anthem, The Star Spangled Banner and additional lyrics from America the Beautiful. I wanted to keep the colors neutral so I could use this vase for a variety of occasions in addition to July 4th. Choose the words you use carefully and select a perfect font… sometimes word art is all you need to create a pretty piece of home decor.

Craft Attitude is printable film you can use in your crafting, art and DIY projects. I’ve created a printable word art piece you can use to make this project yourself. Or you can create your own word art however you like. Make a collage or a hand drawn sketch, scan it and print it on the film however you’d like. I love this Craft Attitude printable film because you can use it on a variety of surfaces and choose your own adhesive. You can print out the same art and use on a ton of different items to create your own coordinating set, or use multiple pieces of printed art to create a one-of-a-kind piece… whatever you like!

Materials:

  • Glass vase – clean and dry
  • Craft Attitude Ink Jet printable film for Arts & Crafts
  • Patriotic word art printable by Jen Goode
  • Computer and ink jet printer
  • Xyron permanent adhesive and 9″ Creative Station
  • Krylon Diamond Dust Glitter Blast spray paint
  • Krylon Crystal Clear – clear acrylic spray
  • Scissors

Download the printable: this is a 2 page patriotic word art printable I designed for this project. You are welcome to print it to use in your own personal projects. I used two a cool old style font called Jefferson to create this word art.

Note about adhesive: The package instructions suggest using either spray adhesive or a glue stick… but because I’m a huge Xyron fan I thought I’d give this adhesive technique a try and it worked GREAT! If you don’t have a Xyron machine or adhesive, go for the spray glue.

How to make this patriotic vase:

  1. Allow product/s to dry as appropriate between applications.
  2. Download the Patriotic word art printable.
  3. Print on a sheet of Craft Attitude printable film as per the package instructions.
  4. Apply Xyron adhesive.
  5. Cut out individual word art pieces and single stars.
  6. Apply word art to vase as desired.
  7. Apply a coat of clear spray coat.
  8. Apply a coat of Glitter Blast.
  9. Apply a final coat of clear spray.

Enjoy!

I don’t usually do a lot of patriotic decorating. I do have quite a few military family members, but we don’t go all out with the red, white and blue around the house. So I try to find, create and use items that I can keep out all year long. Maybe this year I’ll a little more patriotic color to the house!

What kind of decor pieces do you like to make or use for patriotic occasions? I’d love to hear what you create!
