Deep Cleaning Divas and Spring Cleaning

Anyone who knows me knows I can find 100900 gazillion other things I’d rather do than clean. The reality is, I don’t enjoy cleaning because I think it needs to be done so perfectly that a quick 15 minute clean can easily turn into an all day clean. I see a little bit of dirt, start to clean and I see piles more dirt or mess that needs to be dealt with – or better yet, I see an organizational issue that needs to be fixed in the midst of the cleaning. Who has time for all that let alone an all day clean? So usually, instead of cleaning the little dirt, I find something else to do.

Over the years I’ve found the best way to tackle cleaning without becoming overwhelmed is making a consistent schedule. With a little planning and some delegating to spread the work around the family, we don’t have to spend all day cleaning. We have regular daily jobs like dishes and toy pick up – It seems like we vacuum at least 5 times a day! Then we have weekly jobs like cleaning bathrooms, laundry and mopping floors – however if you were to drop by unexpectedly, my house never seems to look clean. With 3 kids and a house full of activity, there’s always some mess to pick up and always some mess being made. Setting a schedule and working together seems to help a ton. Consistency is the trickiest part and the key.

Cleaning Tip: Instead of cleaning every room in the house with thorough detail every week, we try to rotate rooms for bigger cleans. Choose a room a week to really focus on, deep cleaning, getting in the corners and scrubbing. Wipe down walls, windowsills and dust furniture in addition to vacuuming and anything else that needs to be done. Then you just have to keep up with the daily jobs and light pick up. Then you won’t have to do a big “spring clean” with the whole house all at once.

Cleaning with Pine-Sol®

Now, if you’re a bit of a cleaning fanatic, I have some fun info for you. Pine-Sol® is looking to crown the “Deep Clean Diva”. That’s definitely not me, but I’m sure there are plenty of you out there that are always on the look out for something to clean. I like using Pine-Sol®, especially for spot cleans. I have a spray bottom filled with a water/Pine-Sol® mix that I use for quick spot cleans on cabinets, floors and walls around the house. The Sparkling Wave® scent has a great clean smell that you can tell things are clean when you walk in the room.
