Make Graduation Confetti with Your Cricut

Written by: | Published: May 29, 2021 | Updated: May 05, 2023

Make your own confetti for graduation celebrations. It’s super quick and easy with this preset project I’ve created with Cricut in Design Space. It’s a great accessory project for you to make for graduation parties, cards and gifts. Use whatever color cardstock you’d like to coordinate with your grad’s school colors!

This post was originally written in 2014 when my oldest son graduated. 7 years later and my second son graduated from high school in 2021. Again I wanted to share some of the graduation ideas you can make to decorate your own celebrations.

With any of these projects, the dates can change as well as the colors to coordinate with YOUR graduation decor!

Our high school colors are black and gold, so I used a nice black cardstock and then made my own gold card stock because I’m too cheap to pay fancy cardstock. However, you can also save some cash by using a gold-tone paper (bus yellow-ish) instead of actual metallic.

If you want to add some sparkle to your confetti, you can spray a glitter paint on your cardstock, but make sure you use either a metallic or a fine glitter so that you don’t dull the cutting blade as these confetti pieces are tiny and require detailed cuts. I used a basic gold metallic spray paint on the cardstock, let it dry and then cut as usual.

Make your own confetti: I’ve set up a canvas in Cricut Design Space to make 2022 confetti. You can easily create your own numbered confettis with the new “offset” feature in CDS. Try it out!

Supplies you need to make graduation confetti:

This graduation Cricut project includes all 3 shapes you see in the photo. The numbers are created from a font set, so once you purchase this project, you’ll have access to the entire font as well – bonus!

To make your own Graduation Year confetti:

Cut a series of confetti shapes for each color you’d like to include and you’re good to go. Super simple!

Why make your own fancy confetti? you might be asking… because going to the party store, a tiny bag was $1.99 and only enough for MAYBE 3 cards. I wanted to sprinkle confetti on the tables we decorate, put in congrats cards and add to some of the other graduation party space. That’s a lot of cash for confetti and I didn’t want to spend that – so I’m figuring you don’t either… so I created this project neither of us would have to hit up the party store. Plus it’s kind of fun to make your own extras, even if you don’t feel crafty or don’t want to “handmake” a gift. You can make some confetti and call it your own personal addition to whatever you are giving. Ta Dah – happy grad celebrating!

This DIY graduation confetti coordinates with a grad decor Cricut project I created as well. I’ll tell you more about that tomorrow!

I’d love to hear if you make this project! Tell me about it in the comments below or stop by the 100 Directions Facebook page and let me know!

    • Hi! So sorry for the delayed response. You can create your own numbers to use by picking a font and adjusting the spacing between the letters I will work on sharing a tutorial for this ASAP. Thank you so much for the note!

    • Hi Mary, I appreciate your note! I completely understand where you are coming from, I love Cricut Craft Room too. I’ve been asked to create projects and design files specific for the new “Make it Now” section which is only available in the Design Space. That’s why I keep talking about it.. that’s where you can find projects and designs I’ve personally created to share with you. I’ll try to incorporate some projects you can create in CCR – they just won’t have my own art in them. Thank you again for your feedback!
