Hand dyed gift card holder stockings

Written by: | Published: December 22, 2011 | Updated: June 05, 2017

One of the things about gift giving I love the most is the process of picking out the gift. Giving gift cards is not my favorite, to me it seems too easy and doesn’t offer any room for creativity. However, sometimes gift cards really are the best gift. So, to add a little creative personal touch, I thought I’d make the gift card holders.

These are hand dyed mini stockings just the right size for holding a gift card and a couple other treats. I like the extra personal touch of hand dying. I used Cherry Red from Rit Dye and a fun product called Batik-eze to make a neat pattern on each stocking. You can add all sorts of extra details such as gift tags, decorative stitching and fun embellishments like buttons or glitter for sparkle.

I love the raw textures of fabric and thread, so I made sure to include layers of stitching and let the fabric with the batik designs be the focus of each piece. Because it’s batik, I was able to easily create a unique pattern on each individual stocking. I finished each card holder by adding a little wire hanger out of jewelry wire and added a wooden tag… From The Goodes 2011.

I just wish I had made enough that I could keep a couple for myself!

  1. This really is such a neat blog! I’ve been pinning some of your projects. Now, if I could just get you to come to my house and make all of this stuff for me, would be fantastic!!
