Based on a true story that gained national attention, the Heart of Christmas is an inspiring film that’s both heartbreaking and hopeful. It’s an inspiring story encouraging the message “Cherish Every Moment” and “live today” from the minute the movie begins. this holiday film tells the story of a family faced with losing their child and their quest to give him one last Christmas celebration. By the end of the film I was nearly out of tissue and brainstorming ways to reach out and help others.
The Heart of Christmas is a story of Austin and Julie Locke, who are devastated to learn that their young son Dax was diagnosed with Leukemia. After months of medical treatment, support and sharing the experience through an online journal the family heads home. With courage, determination and faith they decide to give their one last Christmas – even if it has to be in October! When the community sees their decorations and learns the truth of what’s going on in their home, a truly moving outpouring of care and support occurs that people really need to see to believe.
I don’t want to give any spoilers, but really, you can read the story behind the movie from the movie website. The movie shares perspective of both the family and their son dealing with the disease as well as a woman and her family that just happened to find herself reading about this story after seeing families decorating for Christmas on Halloween.
There are so many perfect moments for this movie to hit my desk today. I procrastinated watching it because there’se been so much going on… slowing down is important and today I really got the message. Today is nearing the end of October, Breast Cancer Awareness month. For me, pink ribbons mean fighting all cancer- I wish I had a magic wand to poof it all away in one big pink fluff. The movie ends in October, so it brings the perspective even closer to what we should really be thinking about.
Don’t let my teary eyed review prevent you from checking out this movie. It’s truly an inspiring story reminding us to stop and appreciate what’s important, reach out however we can, and love unconditionally. Everything Christmas is about in the giving of the season, this film reminds us all. Every day is a good day to stop and appreciate the important things… slow down and share a hug!
THE HEART OF CHRISTMAS is now available on DVD. You can buy online and even download it digitally from the website. I highly recommend you watch it today… start that spirit of Christmas early this year!
