Great atmosphere, fun night life and delicious food can be found at the Tavern Uptown in Denver. I went for an internet meetup, and although the venue was a little loud for a business networking event, the food was fantastic! My husband had the bacon cheeseburger and I had the ruben.
I've been ordering rubens whenever I see one lately, kind of a self appointed ruben critic and, despite the funky photo, this ruben was great. You won't find typical pastrami and sauerkraut on rye. Oh no, at the Tavern they get tastily creative with their food. Instead this ruben was pastrami cooked perfectly and then piled into the middle of two potato cakes (YUM) with coleslaw, swiss cheese and Thousand island dressing. Mmmmm delicious, it was dang good!
I did miss having the sauerkraut in there. The coleslaw was good, but I love the tangy goodness of a good kraut on pastrami. I ordered this food to go so the bottom of the sandwich was a bit soggy… didn't bother the flavors at all, but required I ate the whole thing with a fork. I don't know if this would have been the case had I eaten at the restaurant. The plate comes with fries and a pickle, more than enough food to fill your belly – half would have been perfect for me, but it was so good I ate it all.
