Painted tea cup flower pots

Written by: | Published: May 30, 2012 | Updated: August 10, 2015

Make your own cute little painted tea cup flower pots, keep for yourself or give as hand-painted gifts. I grabbed a handful of white tea cups at the thrift store for 50 cents a piece. Add in a little color using Decoart Gloss Enamels and Crystal Gloss Enamels and you’ll have yourself a fabulous set of new flower pots.

You don’t have to paint an elaborate scene or be a fantastic painter to make these cute painted tea cups. Stripes and dots make interesting patterns, mini flowers and pretty patterns. The gloss enamel paint goes on a bit translucent so you can easily layer on color to create some neat effects (the crystal version dries translucent as well). Make sure to use smaller brushes so you can create smaller lines without a sloppy mess.

Once the paint dries, fill the cups with potting soil and plant your favorite flower.

I was excited to find a pansy with a red, white and blue (purple-ish) flower all in one plant. It matches perfectly with my patriotic tea cup! I made these painted tea cups and gave as gives for Mother’s day this year and then I saved one tea cup for my daughter to paint for me. Now I want to go grab more tea cups so I can make a whole cabinet full of painted cups – so easy and so much fun! (This also makes a great craft to do with your kids).

  1. I really like how the paint turned out almost sheer. I just used be latte cups for my kitchen herbs. I might have to go back and paint them now 🙂 I glued 3 mugs on top of each other, kind of mad hatter style so I could stack the plants.
