Paint Your Shoes for Halloween

Written by: | Published: October 14, 2017 | Updated: October 25, 2021

Create your own hand painted shoes for Halloween. You can wear them or use them as part of your Halloween decor. This is a festive addition to any Halloween outfit or party costume. I took a pair of aqua colored flats that I never wore, so instead of throwing them out, I took some multi-surface paint and turned them into fun Halloween shoes. You can do the same!

Hand Painted Halloween Shoes

Change up the design however you like to create a pair of Halloween shoes that are fabulously yours. You can make both shoes poka dots or both stripes. I wanted to show you variety of options so you could get create and make yourself some fun shoes!

The shoes I used are a shiny leather on the outside and man-made something or other on the inside along with some fabric. I am excited to report that the paint brushes on beautifully, dries pretty quickly AND sticks really well. I’m having a ton of fun with this paint!

Materials you need:

Look at all the goodies that Plaid sent to me. I ate the candy and played with the Stiffy. I tried making little bats to look like bows but they didn’t turn out like I wanted, so I left them out for now. When I make some that turn out great, I will share them for sure!

This paint comes in beautifully bright colors that cover really well. I am really impressed with how nice this paint is to work with!

Instructions:

  1. Cover your work area and make sure there is not only space to paint, but space to let the shoes sit and dry.
  2. With a medium sized brush, cover the outside of the shoes in black paint and allow to dry.
  3. Use a small paint brush to add dots of color to one shoe. Use one color at a time, example: add all the orange dots and then all the green dots, etc.
  4. On the other shoe use a small paint brush to add colored stripes. Again, add all the stripes, one color at a time. I only covered part of the shoe with stripes and then added 2 spider webs to the other side of the stripe shoe (see below). If you need help figuring out how to draw a spider web, I have some tips on my Spiderweb t-shirt tutorial.
  5. Use the medium brush to paint the inside of each shoe as well. Because this is a multi-surface paint, it works great on both the outside material of the show and the different materials on the inside of the shoe.
  6. Optional: I added little dots of glow-in-the-dark Mod Podge ontop of some of the colored paint in the shoes. It’s nearly impossible to get a photo of the glow because it’s so small (the dots on the shoes), but consider adding the accent on your own shoes. It’s a fun touch for Hallowee.
  7. Optional #2: Apply mod podge or another sealer to seal the shoes. I did not seal my shoes.. this paint is pretty darn amazing and is holding up great!
