It’s always a good idea to have some form of contact available to your SecondLife customers. Just like in real life, you can’t rely on being available to talk every second of the day. And, if you’re really going to succeed at growing a following of return customers, you have to offer a way for them to contact you with comments or questions when you aren’t standing there waiting for their to speak.
I’ve seen a lot of locations have the simple online indicators, many with the ability to page or IM the owner.
Mickey Heaney takes this concept one step further and does an amazing job not only of providing a means of contacting him, but also providing outstanding customer service.
This is Mickey’s Office, the door is always open and the office itself is located just to the right of the main entrance and landing point of his space. Mickey creates amazing birds and decor and is the owner of Feather My Nest Aviary.
I’d like you to really take note of the details here…
On the desk is a cell phone/communicator that doubles as an online indicator and personal pager.
You can’t see it in this photo, but just to the right of the screen view there is a filing cabinet inviting the visitor leave comments and suggestions – Although most would assume this is for complaints or questions, compliments and positive feedback is always appreciated as well.
Then you see on the left there is another smaller designs and another filing cabinet. This desk also have a contact pager, the cabinet requesting suggestions… all for Mickey’s partner Arielyn Docherty. Between the two of them, there is always someone you can reach.
Finally, on the far back wall of this office there is a bookcase. There is no real obvious message to click it so some might assume it’s just for looks. however, if you do touch this piece, you’re invited, via a menu, to pick a bird type and read about it.
This all far more than the average norm as far as ways to get information about a location, and this is what makes Mickey stand out from the crowd. Beyond all this, when I contact Mickey to ask a question, he took the time to talk with me and help me find what I needed… not just via IM, but actually walk me through where I needed to be. A little extra always goes a long way.
If you haven’t already, take a moment to Visit Feather My Nest and explore all there is to see. Take a good long look, you’ll find all kinds of fun details and little extras.. worth every penny you’ll spend and every moment you explore. This is what creating a great experience for others is all about, and it begins with offering a way to keep in touch.
