Don’t do it.
I originally thought it was a great idea to make a special little box (or bag or other object) to “hold” items that are purchased. When a customer makes a purchase of one of my items, they get this neat little bag filled with the product, a thank you note (which includes links to my rl online store) and a landmark back to my main shop. Although it is indeed a great idea as far as appearance goes, there’s a major problem with it…
If a buyer doesn’t own any land, your own land is set to not allow others to build, and the buyer is excited to open the thing right this second… it’s not gonna happen. This is sure to result in very unhappy avatars… and will definitely not encourage anyone to even be curious about the web based urls…
So there are two possible solutions:
1. allow, at least for a specific area, others to build, and if necessary, create scripts on your land. Make sure you point out, obviously that this option is available so your buyers know they can open their new package before they leave.
2. dont package up your products. If you sell your products as non packaged items, but there are multiple parts, SL automatically creates a folder in the user’s inventory to store all your products.
Option 2 is the best idea in my opinion. If you are selling anything that is wearable, this option allows the buyer to immediately wear the item they purchased.
I actually watched a buyer try to wear one of my packages. I felt so bad. He ended up buying the product twice, thinking he hadn’t worn it correctly (it was a freebie, thank goodness). That’s when I realized there had to be a better way!
