I think sometimes we forget that after spending countless hours building and creating and setting up a space in Second Life, other’s might still be confused or get stuck or lost in our new fabulous place.
The best way to deal with this is to invite a few extra pairs of “new eyes” to visit the scene without tellig them how anything works. Let the visitors know you’d like them to check things out and give you honest feedback of their visit. Did they know what they were looking for or at? Did they feel like they could move around and find things alright? Did they have any trouble anywhere, and if so, when and where and how?
I have found myself, many more times than I’d like to count, trying to figure out where a teleporter just dumped me. Or, why search said I’d find fuzzy pink slippers at this store when all I see are goth jewelry pieces and fancy glow sticks.
Remember, when its your own project, you organized it, you know where everything is, yet not everyone thinks through the same logic when looking for things.
If you take the time to go through this extra step, you’ll find more visitors will likely stay longer because they are comfortable with where they are (assuming they are finding what they expected). Additionally, visitors are more likely to return again because they know they can find what they want.
