31 Reasons for Crafting Happiness

  1. Crafting is about making something. Not making something perfect.
  2. Crafting is broad reaching there are no age, gender, ethnicity nor religious restrictions (that I know of), everyone can get involved!
  3. You can craft with anything from glitter and glue to toilet paper roles and old tennis balls.
  4. Crafting with friends is a laughing fit just waiting to happen.
  5. Crafting and Serendipity are synonymous.
  6. There are no design rules. You can use all the same color or make everything mis-matched.
  7. You could make something completely different every week and end up with 52 happiness creations by the end of the year.
  8. There’s something magical that happens when you make an old worn out “thing” pretty and new again. We call this Upcycling.
  9. Handmade gifts are the best gifts of all.
  10. You can craft with kids and they’ll thing you are a super hero – glue gun queen extraordinaire!
  11. Mix and match all kinds of things and you’ll be a pro at mixed-media. That’s crafting and art too!
  12. Glitter is nearly a requirement of crafting (unless you are allergic).
  13. How can you not smile with gold paint nearby?
  14. Crafting is art that doesn’t always create master skills to create something that you can hold and share and give and enjoy.
  15. The sense of accomplishment you can achieve from making something with your own two hands can be physically healing and absolutely happiness creating.
  16. What you create doesn’t have to look anything like what anyone else creates.
  17. If you can knit, you are my hero!
  18. Sewing your kid’s clothes is amazing talent, sewing a greeting card together is beautiful.
  19. Everyone can learn to make something.
  20. Paint and glue is a lot of fun, especially when mixed together.
  21. How many goop or slime recipes have you tried? I’m pretty sure that’s a fundamental science of crafting.
  22. Cupcake decorating qualifies as edible crafting – what’s better than eating what you just created?
  23. You can make money from crafts.
  24. You can teach someone else to make something and then you’ll both feel great.
  25. When you need some down time, there’s nothing better letting your imagination take over and letting your heart create.
  26. If you don’t love it, tear it apart and use it again.
  27. Rarely are there big mistakes in crafting… and usually a mistake can just be painted or glued over.
  28. Crafting is great for adding your own personal touch to your home decor.
  29. Craft parties are awesome – everyone gets a princess crown!
  30. The $4 cereal boxes and wine corks just got more valuable.
  31. It doesn’t matter how you make it, it only matters what you make and how it makes you feel.

  1. I have to move this month, but I intend to get heavy into crafting after I get settled, and it is part of my happiness plan. Sure, I hope to make money from it, but I really want to make things again. I love the way it feels to create something. I’m also going to be doing a lot of upcycling. Money’s tight after a move, and I have all sorts of fun plans to make our meager possessions look cool and come together for a happy home. I’m also going to be trying new techniques and dig up some old ones too.

I think what you’re doing here is great. It always makes me sad when people claim to not be crafty or creative. There’s always something that you can do and love, even the guys! My hubby is even going to be getting in on the crafting with me this year. It turns out, he’s fantastic at brick stitch bead weaving and he wants to try his hand at miniatures. 🙂
